Hidde has been recognised as being among the world's leading IP lawyers. He is ranked in all the major directories, including by Chambers & Partners Global and Europe Guides (2018), with clients describing him as "a good business partner who is excellent - determined and concise". Furthermore, Hidde is one of the few lawyers in Europe specialised in plant variety right law. He was mentioned by Chambers Europe for his notable experience in this field.

Hidde graduated from Utrecht University and has practiced IP law since the beginning of his career in 2001. Prior to joining Boekx, Hidde practiced at the international firms DLA Piper and Simmons & Simmons. At the latter firm, he was responsible as a partner for the soft-IP litigation and trademark registration practice in the Netherlands.

Hidde is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), AIPPI (co-author of many AIPPI papers), the Benelux Trademark and Designs Association (BMM), Dutch Copyright Association, the Agricultural Law Association and the Association of Intellectual Property Litigation Lawyers (VIEPA). He is co-author of the chapter Benelux design law included in the database Intellectual Property Comments (IE-C.nl) and contributes to the MARQUES Class 99 design law blog. Furthermore, Hidde sits on the editorial board of the Dutch intellectual property website IE-Forum.nl.

Court of Justice EU: varieties obtained by new mutagenesis techniques are GMOs

In a recent judgment, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that organisms obtained by new mutagenesis breeding techniques are genetically modified organisms (GMOs) within the meaning of the GMO Directive. As a result, those organisms fall, in principle, within the scope of the GMO Directive and are subject to the regulatory obligations laid down by that directive. Critics say the decision has far-reaching consequences for the ability of plant breeders to apply promising new breeding techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 within the European Union, also within the ornamental sector.

Hidde Koenraad stapt over naar Boekx Advocaten

Amsterdam, 1 september 2017 – Hidde Koenraad (42) is per 1 september als partner toegetreden tot Boekx, een Amsterdams advocatenkantoor gespecialiseerd in intellectuele eigendom, media en privacy. Hidde is afkomstig van het internationale advocatenkantoor Simmons & Simmons, waar hij in 2013 partner werd.
